We went to the woods to get a feel for the setting and to take photographs for our picture books. The weather was great and I was rather impressed that nobody complained or whined, despite it having been a rather long walk.
We had brilliant weather at forest school this week and certainly didn't get as drenched as last week. This time, we learnt how to make fire. We had lunch in the field and then a little bit of time for a run around. Everybody still seemed quite cheerful and not at all tired on the way back from the woods. Since we have only one minibus (thanks to our partner schools for allowing us to borrow it), one group has to wait a little. The boys didn't seem to mind too much and were using it as an opportunity to play football.
We went to our first forest school session this week. It was rather wet, but everyone was in good spirits. Building dens was great fun and Year 5 showed some great teamwork.
First week back and we have started to learn about plants. We took a closer look at flowers, identifying male and female parts. Once we had taken them apart, they had to be put back together, laminated and labelled. Our pictures also make for a nice window display. :)
The Easter break is nearly over and Year 5 will be starting the summer term. Term 5 is packed full of trips and lots of work, especially considering how short it is. While you are still enjoying the lovely weather, you could start to think about how you would like to include the woods as a setting for your adventure stories next term.
