Term 5 - Get out there!
Our Science topic this term is "Interdependence and Adaptation". As part of our topic, we will be spending a lot of time outdoors. We have three forest school sessions and one English trip to the woods to look forward to.
Benefits of Forest School
Healthier bodies: Increased frequency of physical exercise, a challenging environment that helps to develop motor skills, fresh open air allows dispersal of viruses, learning to prepare and cook healthy food.
Healthier minds: Forest Schools offer an opportunity to be sociable and also to have time alone. Space and resources are naturally available, allowing individuals or groups to investigate and problem solve. Forest Schools provide time to just be, where individuals can relax and explore interests. Personal motivation, a willingness to try new tasks and the ability to persist at tasks increases.
Healthier environment: An understanding and appreciation of the natural environment through experience. Knowledge of how systems interlink, and how we affect our surroundings. By spending time in the environment, using it to play and learn, affects us at a deep level. It is this connection with nature that opens us up to care more for the environment as adults.
Healthier future: Many of the skills that develop as a result of spending time at a Forest School are essential life skills that in time will benefit the economy. Children develop determination to complete tasks; they learn to work together as a team and to communicate effectively.

Term 4 - On the move
In Term 4, our Science topic was "Forces and Motion". To start the topic, we made our own water rockets and launched them in the park. We were also visited by engineering students from Bristol University, went to Rolls-Royce and had the RNLI teach us all about water safety and buoyancy.
Term 3 - It's all Greek to me
We've been learning about Ancient Greece. As part of the topic, we have been looking at the Iliad in music lessons and created our own images to go with the story.
Term 2 - What's the matter?
In term 2, our Science topic was "Reversible and irreversible changes". We started out by making bouncy balls and learning about polymers and revising states of matter. We also learnt about the water cycle and went on a trip to Wessex Water, where we got to test water samples and learnt about the importance of reservoirs.
